Many of the regular visitors to What Did You Eat? have already heard the tragic news that this site's creator, Sherry Cermak, died on July 20, 2008 of a sudden heart attack. Sherry was part of two wonderful blogging communities. The food bloggers, which was the main topic of What Did You Eat?, and the cat bloggers where she posted updates on the lives of her cats and rescued wildlife (squirrels) on WCB. Sherry shared parts of her personal life on her blog, most recently her anemia and what she was cooking and eating to improve her blood count. She had started a new blog "My Battle with Anemia", but died before she could make the initial posting.
The response to Sherry's death has been overwhelming. So many of her friends and fellow bloggers have left messages of sympathy to her family and expressions of love and gratitude for how much they enjoyed reading her blog. Thank you to everyone who came to visit Sherry's site, whether you left a comment or not. Blogging was an important part of her life. It allowed her to write about the things she was passionate about -- good food, cooking, pets and wildlife. She enjoyed reading other blogger's sites and corresponding with them. She established a network of good friends, most whom she never met in person but was able to touch their lifes through her kindness, wisdom and thoughtful postings. Humor was a big part of Sherry's writings. She made many readers smile and laugh. We will all miss that very much.
Thanks to the wonderful food and cat blogging communities who gave their support. Bless all of you.
Those who wish to sign a remembrance guestbook online may do so at www.wiscombefuneral.com.
Sherry's husband, Bob

Oh dear, what a horrible loss. Bob- you need to know (and it sounds like you already do) that Sherry was so well respected in our food blogging community. I'm sure it's somewhat comforting to know how many people are feeling the loss of Sherry along with you. Hugs and prayers to you and your family.

I had only recently started blogging at the urging of some friends. I stumbled across this blog quite by accident. I loved the pictures and the WCB updates. The food was gorgeous. While I had not had a chance to connect with Sherry personally, I am still saddened by her passing. This community has lost a vibrant, funny, and interesting woman.

Feel comfort in knowing that you will be with your sweet wife again someday. She was a great inspiration to me and will be missed terribly. There were days when I felt that my whole world would never stop feeling like it was just crashing down...and she was always there. Her blog would make me just bust up laughing at times...I thank her for that. May you and your family be comforted during your loss.

I am so sad to have found this. This blog was one that I have been reading for a little over a year. I can't tell you how many of her recipes I have bookmarked and have made. I always thought of commenting, although I never did and now wish that I had told her how wonderful I thought she was. I will miss her... My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family.

Oh my god, I just saw this, and absolutely can't believe it!! Sher has been a major part of my blogging life, and I talked about her, the recipes, the cats, the squirrels often with my husband.
This is devastating. My good vibes are with you and the brood... I am so sorry.

My condolences, Bob. Like many others here, I only knew Sher as a "blogroll buddy" but it was easy to recognize her passion for food and animals.
I'm more of a dog guy, but I always got a kick out of her WCB posts.
You hang in there, looks like you've got lots of folks pulling for you. God Bless.
