Many of the regular visitors to What Did You Eat? have already heard the tragic news that this site's creator, Sherry Cermak, died on July 20, 2008 of a sudden heart attack. Sherry was part of two wonderful blogging communities. The food bloggers, which was the main topic of What Did You Eat?, and the cat bloggers where she posted updates on the lives of her cats and rescued wildlife (squirrels) on WCB. Sherry shared parts of her personal life on her blog, most recently her anemia and what she was cooking and eating to improve her blood count. She had started a new blog "My Battle with Anemia", but died before she could make the initial posting.
The response to Sherry's death has been overwhelming. So many of her friends and fellow bloggers have left messages of sympathy to her family and expressions of love and gratitude for how much they enjoyed reading her blog. Thank you to everyone who came to visit Sherry's site, whether you left a comment or not. Blogging was an important part of her life. It allowed her to write about the things she was passionate about -- good food, cooking, pets and wildlife. She enjoyed reading other blogger's sites and corresponding with them. She established a network of good friends, most whom she never met in person but was able to touch their lifes through her kindness, wisdom and thoughtful postings. Humor was a big part of Sherry's writings. She made many readers smile and laugh. We will all miss that very much.
Thanks to the wonderful food and cat blogging communities who gave their support. Bless all of you.
Those who wish to sign a remembrance guestbook online may do so at www.wiscombefuneral.com.
Sherry's husband, Bob
Bob,
I'm so sorry for your loss. A bright, beautiful, wonderful light has gone out of the world. She will always be remembered.

Thank you for posting this Bob, I know it must have been hard for you to do. Sher was a truly well loved person and the global blogging community has a hole in it that I'm afraid will never be filled.
Please consider keeping Sher's blog on line so that her recipes and photos, her wonderful sense of humor, and her life with her cats and squirrels will be there for all to read and enjoy.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Bob
My thoughts and love are with you and your family at this time.
I'm a longtime reader and lurker of this blog which combined my loves of cats and food. I'm sitting a world away typing this (Australia) with tears running down my face and wishing I could do something more to tell Sher how much I loved her blog. Take care, Ela.

dear bob
I am devastated. Sher's blog was one I read every morning with my first cup of coffee. I was always cheered and encouraged by her enthusiasm and wonderful sense of humor. Her stories about the cats and the squirrels were just priceless. I would often pass them on to friends. I wish you and the rest of her family and friends strength and hope that you are comforted to know how many people all over the world cared for her.

I read about this sad news when reading Ruth's blog 'Once Upon a Feast'. Though I never interacted with Sherry, as a fellow-food blogger, I feel intensely sad to hear this news. I would like to offer my condolences and wish peace and God's grace on all in the family.

I discovered Sherry's blog a year or so ago and have been visiting ever since. Her humor, warmth and love for food, animals and life were extremely evident with each entry. Visiting her blog was like catching up with a witty and warm friend, I was always looking forward to each new culinary creation or update about her animals. I am so sorry to hear of her passing; she will be greatly missed.
