Many of the regular visitors to What Did You Eat? have already heard the tragic news that this site's creator, Sherry Cermak, died on July 20, 2008 of a sudden heart attack. Sherry was part of two wonderful blogging communities. The food bloggers, which was the main topic of What Did You Eat?, and the cat bloggers where she posted updates on the lives of her cats and rescued wildlife (squirrels) on WCB. Sherry shared parts of her personal life on her blog, most recently her anemia and what she was cooking and eating to improve her blood count. She had started a new blog "My Battle with Anemia", but died before she could make the initial posting.
The response to Sherry's death has been overwhelming. So many of her friends and fellow bloggers have left messages of sympathy to her family and expressions of love and gratitude for how much they enjoyed reading her blog. Thank you to everyone who came to visit Sherry's site, whether you left a comment or not. Blogging was an important part of her life. It allowed her to write about the things she was passionate about -- good food, cooking, pets and wildlife. She enjoyed reading other blogger's sites and corresponding with them. She established a network of good friends, most whom she never met in person but was able to touch their lifes through her kindness, wisdom and thoughtful postings. Humor was a big part of Sherry's writings. She made many readers smile and laugh. We will all miss that very much.
Thanks to the wonderful food and cat blogging communities who gave their support. Bless all of you.
Those who wish to sign a remembrance guestbook online may do so at www.wiscombefuneral.com.

I am beyond shocked. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I enjoyed reading her posts so much. Her wit and joy for life evident in her writing as was her tremendous heart - her grief over the loss of her sister and then Upsie as well as her adopting of and caring for the animals she wrote about and I suspect people she did not. What a strange and wonderful world the online community is - that someone can effect the lives of so many people.

Such tragic news, I'm so very truly sorry to hear about this. I've enjoyed reading Sher's blog and especially the wonderful posts and pictures of the cats and squirrels, I found my way here through the WCB once upon a time.
My thoughts are with you and my deepest sympathies too.

Bob, I'm so sorry. What a shock. Sher was so supportive of me when I first started my own food blog; she commented often, which was so encouraging, and she put me in her blog roll, which was thrilling. This is a terrible loss and I wish you all the support and comfort in the world.

Oh, Bob, I am so, so sad about Sher, and my heart aches for your loss. I always loved reading Sher's blog, and hearing about her work with the little squirrels and her beloved cats, not to mention her incredible recipes. I simple can't believe this news. Saying she will be missed is an understatement. Just what a truly lovely person she was came though in every post and every commnet she made. My heart goes out to you. God bless you...Belinda

Bob, I am stunned and saddened by this news. I had the good fortune to meet Sherry several months back when I took an orphaned squirrel we'd found in our Carmichael yard to Sherry. Sherry was everything you'd gather her to be from this blog -- funny, smart, caring and truly a generous and loving spirit. Her e-mails updating me on the little Rio's progress continued to convey her bright and sunny personality. Our world is much more poor for her absence...but I just know that she's picking fresh peaches somewhere with her beloved Upsie at her feet and all of the little wild creatures she loved darting from branch to branch around her...making that next world all the more bright with her love. My heart goes out to you Bob, and all of your family. Please know that her legacy extends far and wide - and may we all honor her by carrying on her gracious ways. Peace be with you!

Dear Bob - I have been back several times searching for an appropriate comment, it seems I have none. I read all of Sher's pasta recipes in one sitting, and enjoyed every minute of it. I am so sorry for your loss. Instead of waiting for the perfect comment, I just want to say that as much as a stranger can feel your loss, I do. May you find some comfort in the comments posted on Sher's blog.

To, Bob and Sher's family
I am sorry for your loss. I have been away from blogging for few weeks and am shocked and saddened to read this. Her writing style was fun to read because she always incorporated unique recipes and stories in each post. She will be missed. I hope the best for you and the family.

This is very late. I just followed a link to this site posted at Nice Cup of Tea and a Sit-Down, as he said there was a recipe for Empire Biscuits here. After saving the recipe, I decided to read the site, starting at the most recent entry, and found this. I am so sad to hear this news. I am an avid reader of food blogs, and don't know how I never found this one. Your wife seemed to be a beautiful person, and I am honestly as saddened by this news as I would have been had I been a long-time reader. The loss of any member of the 'foodie' community will always feel like losing one of our own. Please leave the site up. I would love to be able to come here later and read all of it.
God Bless You All
