Many of the regular visitors to What Did You Eat? have already heard the tragic news that this site's creator, Sherry Cermak, died on July 20, 2008 of a sudden heart attack. Sherry was part of two wonderful blogging communities. The food bloggers, which was the main topic of What Did You Eat?, and the cat bloggers where she posted updates on the lives of her cats and rescued wildlife (squirrels) on WCB. Sherry shared parts of her personal life on her blog, most recently her anemia and what she was cooking and eating to improve her blood count. She had started a new blog "My Battle with Anemia", but died before she could make the initial posting.
The response to Sherry's death has been overwhelming. So many of her friends and fellow bloggers have left messages of sympathy to her family and expressions of love and gratitude for how much they enjoyed reading her blog. Thank you to everyone who came to visit Sherry's site, whether you left a comment or not. Blogging was an important part of her life. It allowed her to write about the things she was passionate about -- good food, cooking, pets and wildlife. She enjoyed reading other blogger's sites and corresponding with them. She established a network of good friends, most whom she never met in person but was able to touch their lifes through her kindness, wisdom and thoughtful postings. Humor was a big part of Sherry's writings. She made many readers smile and laugh. We will all miss that very much.
Thanks to the wonderful food and cat blogging communities who gave their support. Bless all of you.
Those who wish to sign a remembrance guestbook online may do so at www.wiscombefuneral.com.

Dear Bob,
I just discovered Sherry's blog today and I was so thrilled. I love her recipes and pictures. She had a great recipe for some Wild Rice Soup and her Sweet Potato recipe I am going to make in a few days for Thanksgiving. I just discovered her blog and I can't believe she's gone. I feel so lucky her blog lives on and that I stumbled across it. My thoughts are with you this Thanksgiving. I will be thinking of her when we eat our sweet potatoes.

Good bye, my friend. It's taken a long time to digest that you're gone. I still can't believe it. And I have a photo on my refrigerator of you, Nancy and I dining at Morton's perhaps just 2 years ago. And, of course, I remember the summer we spent planning to go to, eating at and talking about having been to Thomas Keller's 5 star eatery, The Laundry, in Napa. Now you've passed, Nancy's on the east coast and I'm rereading your blog. Although I still don't cook! I can't imagine you resting - wherever you've gone. But don't give them too much hell. Give them time to get to know you first. Then give them hell! Love, Helene
PS: Hug all our beloved animals on the other side for me.

I keep this link on my blog and on my desk top and I stop by from time to time to make sure it is still here. Funny how people you have never met can effect you - but I miss Sher's stories, her recipes. She had such a presence here in online - she must have really been something to know in person.
Thank you for not closing this out, for allowing us to come back, to say hello, to re-read.

This weekend "Weekend Cat Blogging" will be held at Paulchen's Food Blog at http://foodblog.paulchens.org/?p=2430 in honor of Sher. So along with my WCB post of my cats I thought I would make another one of Sher's wonderful recipes. It doesn't seem possible that it has been one year and I am always happy to see that her blog is still here! Thinking of you, Sher, and prayers for your family.

Bob,
This is very sad. I have been gone awhile and only to come back to this sad news.
Sherry thought me entering in the Memphis In May BBQ contest was so cool. I discovered my passion for "food blogging" through Sherry's talented photography and writing... We will indeed miss her a lot and it won't be same without her!
Thank you for sharing and Thank Sherry for letting me be a part of her journey.

I discovered her butternut squash recipe on here a year ago and make it all the time. It's absolutely delicious. I'm very, very sorry to hear she's gone, and yet so grateful her recipes are living on.
